GREYHOUND BAR KO CUP QUARTER-FINAL

Killorglin 3 Fenit Samphires 1

AFTER narrowly missing out on a place in the Premier B League Final Killorglin are through to the semi-final of the Greyhound Bar Cup after a good win over Premier A side Fenit Samphires on Sunday.

The Launesiders got off to a bad start with Fenit going ahead early in the game with a brilliantly executed free kick by Ryan Downey. Killorglin recovered from this setback and began to put some good constructive football together with Dylan O’Sullivan a thorn in the side of the Fenit defence.

They equalised shortly afterwards when Lee Carey provided a perfect cross for Dylan O’Sullivan and he slotted it away at the second time of asking after a good stop by the Fenit goalkeeper. Two minutes later Killorglin’s prospects were enhanced when Fenit were reduced to 10 men when a player was dismissed for a tackle on Mike Carey.

Killorglin created a number of chances after this but were unable to take advantage so it remained level at the break.

Five minutes into the second half Killorglin should have taken the lead when a great run by Lee Carey opened the Fenit defence and he crossed to Dylan O’Sullivan at the back post but he could only hit the side netting. O’Sullivan was not to be denied five minutes later when he ran on to a lovely Ryan Keane cross into the box and headed home his and Killorglin’s second goal.

The Mid Kerry side then introduced Liam Carey for Gary Flynn who picked up an injury. Fenit started to get into the game after this and only for some fine goalkeeping from Brian O’Sullivan in the Killorglin goal the game could have been level.

Killorglin got a stranglehold on the game in the 70th minute when a clever ball in from Paul McKenna found Dylan O’Sullivan and he completed his hat trick in impressive fashion with a clinical finish.

Sean Costello and David Coffey came on for the home team and Killorglin slowed down the pace of the game and ran out comfortable winners at the end.

It was a fantastic team performance on the day by the winners with everyone putting in a massive effort against a team from the county’s top division in front of a decent crowd.
