1. ‘RUN FOR THE ROCK’ IN TRALEE THIS WEEKEND

THE ‘Run for the Rock, Paul Lucey’ memorial run takes place in Tralee this weekend and promises to be a great local community event.

The event, which will be held on Monday May 7 at 11am and will be split up into a 5k and a 10k event; it will start and finish at the Austin Stacks Club House in Connolly Park.

Over 16’s will cost €20, U16’s will cost €10 and a family ticket will cost €40 and prizes will be given out on the day.

2. ALL SET FOR THE KERRY CAMINO WEEKEND

WE’RE just a couple of days out now from the start of the 2018 Kerry Camino Walking Festival, a weekend which promises to show off the beauty of the famous Kerry trail.

The festival will run over the course of the May Bank Holiday weekend, May 4 to May 6; The walk will start from St John’s Church in Tralee on the morning of Friday May 4 and will finish that Sunday at St James Church in Dingle.

3. FENIT RNLI TO HOLD FUNDRAISIN­G CYCLE

THE annual Fenit RNLI 50km fundraisin­g cycle will take place this weekend on Saturday May 5.

The event will start and finish at O’Donnells Bar in Mounthawk. Registrati­on for the cycle will take place from 9:15am onwards on the morning, with the cycle itself getting started at 10:30am.

There will be a minimum entry fee of €40.

4. WEST KERRY TO CELEBRATE STARS WARS LINK

THE Force is set to be very strong in Kerry next week as south and west Kerry prepare to celebrate their role in the latest episode of the blockbuste­r Star Wars franchise.

To celebrate the occasion the communitie­s in Portmagee, Valentia and Ballyferri­ter – working in conjunctio­n with Fáilte Ireland – have organised a galaxy worth of events planned over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

5. MARIO ROSENSTOCK SET TO ENTERTAIN INEC

COMEDIAN and impression­ist Mario Rosenstock is all set for a night in Kerry this weekend, as he gets ready for a show in Killarney’s INEC.

The man of a hundred faces will bring his ‘In Your Face’ show to the venue on Friday May 4, with tickets to the show still available to buy through the INEC box office or website.

Doors open on the night at 7pm with the show itself starting at 8pm.

6. SPORTS QUIZ TO BE HELD IN TRALEE

CARA will hold a ‘Know Your Sport’ table quiz in O’Donnells Bar in Mounthawk, on Thursday May 3.

The event will be held in aid of ‘Camp Abilities’ and will start at 8pm on the night; it will cost €40 per team and €30 for a student team.

7. NEARLY TIME FOR THE KINGDOM COMIN FESTIVAL

THE Kingdom Comic Fest will be held in the Listowel Arms Hotel this weekend.

This completely free event will run on Sunday May 6 and it is connected to the LIstowel History Festival; the event will have special guests, video games, writers, artists, small press, crafters, vendors, cosplay, movie memorabili­a and so much more.

It will start at 11am and run until 5pm.

8. ANAM CARA TO HOLD MONTHLY MEETING

ANAM Cara Kerry, an organisati­on that supports bereaved parents, is hosting its monthly parent evening on Tuesday May 8 in Tralee.

The meeting will be held in Recovery Haven, 5 Haig’s Terrace in Killerisk and will run from 7:30pm to 9:30pm on the night; this is a service that is offered free of charge by the Anam Cara services.

9. TEA MORNING IN AID OF ALZHEIMERS ASSOCIATIO­N

A FUNDRAISIN­G tea morning in aid of the Alzheimer’s Associatio­n will be held in the Tureencahi­ll Community Centre in Gneeveguil­la on Friday May 4.

Home baking is very welcome on the day, organisers are encouragin­g everyone to come out and support this great event.

10. GET EXERCISING THIS WEEKEND WITH PARKRUN

WHY not try to head down to take part in one of the many parkruns taking place around Kerry at the weekends?

There are four parkruns in Kerry: Tralee, Killarney, Listowel and the Tralee Junior parkrun.

These free 5km events are run every weekend by volunteers and they have been proven to be extremely popular in improving both physical and mental health.

The Tralee. Listowel and Killarney parkruns are held every Saturday morning from 9:30am onwards while the Tralee Junior parkrun takes place on Sunday at 9:30am - these 2km events are aged for children from 4-14 years old. People can register and print off their barcode at parkrun.ie.
