MINORS : Congratulations to our Minor team who captured the club’s first piece of silverware this year, when they defeated Causeway/Ballyheigue in a pulsating North Kerry League Final played in Abbeydorney last Saturday evening. We got off to a blistering start with an Adam Maunsell point and Michael Slattery goal within the opening 5 minutes of the game. Both sides went point for point for the ensuing 10 minutes leaving the scoreline at 1-03 to 0-03 midway through the half. We threatened the Causeway/Ballyheigue goal a number of times but were unlucky not to convert. Two converted frees from Causeway/Ballyheigue left just a point between the sides. We added another point from a free to stretch the lead again but Causeway/Ballyheigue were just as accurate from placed balls, sending over 2 to leave the sides level at half-time, 1-04 to 0-07.

After the break, Causeway/Ballyheigue hit the ground running from the throw-in hitting 1-03 without reply. We were now 6 points down in the 43rd minute of the game and needed a score before the game went out of our reach. Up stepped Adam Maunsell who converted 3 frees to bring his side back into the game. Causeway/Ballyheigue replied with 2 points before Adam Maunsell added another from placed ball leaving us trailing by 4 points. In the 55th minute, Dean O’Brien latched onto a ball sent into the square and rattled the Causeway/Ballyheigue net. This was the turning point in the game. From there, we sent over 6 unanswered points to secure victory on a final scoreline of Abbeydorney 2-14 Causeway/ Ballyheigue 1-12. The team showed guile and determination to stage a remarkable comeback from 6 points down midway through the 2nd half to triumph with a 5 point advantage.
