SENIORS; were beaten 2-13 to 1-13 at home by Ardfert in round five of the county senior hurling league. The first half was all Ardfert who went in at half time leading 2-8 to 1-3. Thomas Molyneaux kept Lixnaw in there with his twentieth minute goal. Lixnaw came back well in the second half and were within striking distance but were denied by the clock. came from Scartaglen’s Daniel Cronin. A goal from Cronin midway through the half extended Scartaglen’s lead to 6 points. It was to put daylight between the two teams and a lead Scartaglen never looked like relinquish­ing. With both sides adding a point each in the remainder of the first half. Kenmare’s Kevin Price with his second & Mike Coakley also with his second of the afternoon following good work by Conor Cremin. The sides went in at the break Scartaglen 2-03(9) Kenmare 0-03. Scartaglen began the second half like they did the first with Eddie Horan scoring his second point from play following the restart. Brian Hanrahan got his first score of the afternoon soon after to help extend Scartaglen advantage. Kevin Price got his first score of the second half from a free after he was fouled by Damien O’Connor. With the Scartaglen defence dealing comfortabl­y with and treat the Kenmare forwards posed, it allowed Scartaglen to keep the scoreboard ticking over, Eddie Horan with the third point in the 39th minute. Kevin Price soon had another Kenmare free on the board and this was soon followed in the 43th minute with their first point from play in the second half from David Cronin. It was to be Kenmare best period of the half as Kenmare’s Kevin Price scored a good point from a difficult angle in the 38th minute. Kenmare rallied hard for a goal in the 50th minute but were prevented from scoring following good team work from the Scartaglen defence. Scartaglen closed out the game outscoring the hosts 0-4 to 0-0. The pick of the scores coming from Eddie Horan his forth score of the afternoon. Following good work by Mike Coakley Eddie with the outside of the booth from the left-hand side stretch Scartaglen’s lead further and assured Scartaglen were to come away with full points.
