Kerry medals, records and PBs at Munster Schools T&F Championsh­ip

to Limerick’s Paudie Quish 15-7, 15-13 while John Joe Quirke also went down to Limerick opposition. He was beaten by Evan Murphy in the Men’s B semi-final 15-12, 15-10.

There was no luck for Ballymac’s Danny Riordan in the Men’s C final as he was narrowly beaten by Cork’s Gearoid O’Connell 1512, 15-11. Cork had a good day with Anna Dunne claiming the Ladies C final defeating Glenbeigh’s Evelyn Quirke 15-12, 15-9.

It was one of those days for the Quirkes as Sean lost out in the U-15 semi-final 15-9, 15-8 to Tipperary’s Rory Grace while Tommy went down to Cork’s Cian O’Driscoll 15-12, 15-9 in the Boys U-17 semi-final.

THE An Roicht facility in Castleisla­nd was the host for another schools outing last Saturday as qualifiers from the North, South and East Munster Schools competitio­ns gathered for the Irish Life Health Munster Schools Track and Field Championsh­ips, on yet another Sunny day of highly competitiv­e athletics. Supported and encouraged by teachers and families, athletes competed for the coveted top three spots which would allow them to compete for their schools at the National Championsh­ips in Tullamore on Saturday, June 2.

The Kerry contingent proved again the advantage of the Kerry Athletic Developmen­t Squads, with many gaining silverware, setting new records and gaining PBs. The following are the Kerry athletes who are progressin­g to Nationals; full results are available on the Munster schools website.

An Riocht’s Shona Heaslip was in action as part of the Irish team competing at the European Cup 10,000m championsh­ips in Highgate, London last Saturday. Shona finished in sixth place overall in the Women’s race in a time of 33.24, just four seconds off the European Championsh­ip qualifying standard.

Club mate James Doran also had a sixth place finish at the weekend in the half marathon in the M35 category at the European Masters in Alicante where he put in a great time of 1.12.35.
