Climbing Ireland’s highest mountain in memory of Listowel’s Bernie O’Sullivan
‘Climb to Remember’ on Saturday, June 24
A DAUGHTER’S love knows no bounds, not even the soaring crags of Ireland’s highest mountain range, as the seventh year of a wonderful event attests to.
For on Saturday, June 24, Listowel woman Betty O’Sullivan will lead scores of climbers out from Cronin’s Yard in the Magillicuddy Reeks to scale Carrauntoohil – in memory of her beloved mother Bernie and the work of the hospital where she received amazing care up to her death from cancer in 2010.
Betty encourages newbies and seasoned trekkers to join Climb to Remember, with the event growing stronger and stronger each year to the point where it now draws people from right across Munster.
Many of them, like Betty and her father Dan, have been personally touched by the work of the Mercy Hospital, the beneficiary of the event.
“The care given to my mother before her passing at the Mercy was second to none and I’m so grateful for everything the team there did to help her and our family,” Betty said.
“Funds raised through ‘Climb to Remember’ are just a little way to support the work of the wonderful team in the Hospital. I would like to thank the Mercy Hospital Foundation for organising the event, giving me the opportunity to remember my mother in this way year after year. I’m sure it will also give my fellow hikers on June 24th precious time to reflect on and remember their own loved ones who have passed on.”
Pre-event registration is recommended, and participants can sign up at www.mercyfundraising.ie. The fee is €25.
