So far, so good for students across county

PRINCIPALS AND TEACHERS RESPOND POSITIVELY TO THIS YEAR’S LEAVING AND JUNIOR CERT EXAMINATIONS

IT’S been a case of so far, so good for students across the county as they report a generally positive reaction to this year’s Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate examinations.

Barring a few tricky questions in some exams, including Monday’s Maths Paper Two in Leaving Cert and the non-appearance of an anticipated short story in Tuesday’s Leaving Cert Irish Paper Two, principals and students across the county are happy with what they have seen to date.

“Everyone is generally happy. So far everything has been fair and I don’t think that there has been any sort of a curveball out there,” said ISK Killorglin Deputy Principal, James O’Mahony, speaking to The Kerryman on Tuesday.

Vice Principal of Mercy Mounthawk in Tralee, Pat Fleming said that while students were made to work for every single mark in the Maths exam, he said that it has been a generally good year so far.

“I think that this year more than any other year, there has been a calmness about the place.

“The Leaving Cert students seem to be very much taking everything in their stride which we’re very glad about,” he said.

“The papers so far, we’ve been very happy with. Irish today was a bit tricky I believe but I think that the trickiest exam so far would have been Maths Paper Two in the Leaving Cert.”

“As a Maths teacher myself, I can definitely say that the paper made students work for their marks. There was a bit of meat on that paper, it was hard going.”

“Overall, I’d say it’s been positive and I must say that it’s great that there are so many supports out there available to students nowadays through the school and the department,” he added.

Speaking to students outside schools, it seems they too have been happy with what they have seen. Many have saide they are exhausted, but also relieved to be so close to the finishing line.

Exams will continue this morning ( Wednesday) with French in the morning and History in the afternoon. Business, Art and Russian will take place on Thursday.

On Friday, the higher, ordinary and aural German exams take place in the morning, followed by Construction Studies, Latin and Classical Studies, finishing off the week.
