Nothing ‘sickly’ about hospital’s windfall from dance show

- BY KATHLEEN O’SULLIVAN

SPORTS and Social Club of University Hospital Kerry members were delighted to be able to present a cheque for €67,737 to the Chemotherapy Day Unit in the hospital recently.

Their ‘Sickly Come Dancing’ event held on February 23 raised much-needed funds for the unit and it gave an opportunity for 24 members of staff from various departments to show off their moves to the 700 people who attended the event in Ballygarry House Hotel on the night.

Therese Carroll of UHK, who helped organise the event, said that the night was a massive success.

“We didn’t expect it; it’s the first time we had an event like this. We raised over double the amount of what we hoped to.

“Along with helping patients through the fundraiser, the event really livened the mood in the hospital. The 700 tickets were sold inhouse and those who were involved were from all different disciplines and departments in the hospital, so it was great for everyone to meet each other.

“We were delighted to have raised so much for the patients. The money will go towards the facilities in the unit for patients - making it more comfortable for them with new chairs, beds, lounges and more.

“We would like to thank Padraig McGillicuddy and the staff of the Ballygarry House Hotel and our sponsors for their generosity.”
