Full steam ahead for Ballyheigue’s Half on the Head
BALLYHEIGUE’S annual Half on the Head takes place on Saturday but don’t worry if you have not yet booked a place as there are a limited number still available, according to organisers as of Tuesday.
The Kerryhead half marathon and 10k run event brings runners and walkers through one of the most stunning panoramas in the country with incredible views, on fine days, of both majestic Tralee Bay and the Shannon Estuary.
That’s just one of the many reasons why the event continues to grow each year, coupled with the superb organisation offering all an unforgettable fitness experience.
Registration will be available at the Ballyheigue Community Centre this Friday, from 7 - 8pm and again on Saturday morning (June 16) from 9 - 10am.
“The Half Marathon takes you around the rugged coast of Kerryhead Peninsula, one of the most breathtaking parts of the Wild Atlantic Way. Starting in Ballyheigue village you will make your way along country roads and lanes by the Shannon Estuary,” organiser Mick Harkin explained.
“The route then loops back to Tralee Bay with stunning views of Mount Brandon and Banna Strand to its finish at the gates of historic Ballyheigue Castle. The Half on the Head has been running for six years now and continues to grow year on year. This year will be our biggest event yet with competitors from all over the globe coming to take part. It is a great boost for the village of Ballyheigue and we would like to thank all the volunteers and community groups that help us make the occasion so enjoyable for the people who come to take part,” Mick said.
