KERRY: The Kerry hurlers ended their season with a 2-21 to 1-20 win over Antrim in round 5 of the Joe McDonagh Cup in Cushendall. It is believed to be Kerry’s first win over Antrim on their own patch. Daniel Collins was excellent once again for Kerry, moving to centre back while Tom Murnane ended an illustrious inter-county career captaining the side giving another outstanding display at corner back. Unfortunately, Tom had to be substituted late on due to an injury. During his inter-county career, Tom was awarded two Christy Ring All-Stars in 2009 and 2010. He was unlucky to be on the side that lost two Christy Ring finals in 2013 and 2014, but he won two National league medals in 2014 (Div 2A) and 2010 (Div 3A). He played on the Kerry side that had an historic win over Cork in the 2018 Munster hurling league in Tralee, and was a member of the Irish team that defeated Scotland in the shinty/hurling internationals in 2011 and 2012. But the highlight for Tom was possibly winning a Railway Cup medal on the field of play with Munster in 2017 when they defeated Leinster in the final. The good news for Kilmoyley supporters is that Tom is continuing his club hurling with Kilmoyley and is setting out this weekend on another county championship campaign. forward from his half back position to goal early in the second half for the visitors and put the game completely out of reach of Knocknagoshel. The home side did raise their game in this half and had two goals of their own from midfielder Shane O’Connell who combined well with his forwards to open up the heart of Rahilly’s defence. Points from Denis Collins, John Walsh and John O’Keeffe helped put a degree of respectability on the scoreboard for the home side but Rahilly’s ability to score goals at will ensured they would take the two league points on offer and give themselves a fighting chance of finishing in the top half of the group.
