Glamping: a great way to savour the great outdoors in comfort and style

-

THE great outdoors and luxur y aren’ t exactly a perfect match in most people’s minds but when it comes to sampling the delights of nature and scenic beauty, you’ve got to try this. Glamping has hit the outdoor activity market with a bang in recent years as you enjoy all the luxury while enjoying a night under the stars.

Glamping is basically the evolution of an old favourite (camping) and it certainly seems to be taking the tourism industry by storm with outdoor accommodation in the form of log cabins, microlodges, reworked Romany caravans and bell tents – many of which include quirky bedsits and furniture, Wi-Fi, and lovely porticos and decking areas. While the names, and style of accommodation is certainly novel - even bordering on the chicly absurd - the experience is an amazingly unique one.

Glamping is essentially a sanctuary for those who like the idea of camping, but don’t want to part with all the comforts of home - not an unreasonable expectation by any means. Another key selling point of glamping is that while an individual may like the idea of a hotel room or B&B, this sort of accommodation is usually located in towns and cities, whereas glamping allows you to locate yourself in the heart of the surrounding countryside yet still return to a comfy room at the end of the day. What more could you possibly want?

Kerry has witnessed a surge in glamping in recent times with attractive, convenient and comfortable outdoor accommodation in places like Killarney, Kenmare, Banna and also at the appropriately named ‘Camp’ in west Kerry.

Glamping is an ideal way to share the outdoor experience with families as small children can sometimes feel cooped up when holidaying. What better way of keeping them active than spending most of the time outdoors. Glamping allows you more freedom to stretch your legs than a tent and other holiday accommodation does, plus you’re only an open door away from the bosom of the countryside. What’s not to like about it?
