Local Link’s new evening bus service is launched by Ross

-

KERRY Local Link’s pilot evening bus service has been officially launched by Transport Minister Shane Ross.

Local Link Kerry manage and coordinate the delivery of scheduled Public and Community Bus Services on behalf of the National Transport Authority.

They have now introduced seven new evening services across the county on a pilot basis.

Minister Ross – who was joined by Brendan Griffin, a junior minister in Ross’ department – launched the new service during a visit to see the Lartigue Monorail in Listowel.

Kerry Local Link General Manager Carmel Walsh explained the basics of the service.

“The seven additional bus services are designed to provide access to a range of social activities in local towns and villages for local residents and tourists, and that the bus services are classed as demand-responsive transport that can deviate to pick passengers up at their own doors,” she said.

“Once these seven services are up and running and fully operational, the focus for Local Link Kerry will turn to ensuring the pilot period is extended, and also extended for 2019.”

The services will run in the Asdee and Ballylongford areas; Currow area (including Currow, Castleisland and Cordal); the Kerry Head and Ballyheigue area; the Bonane and Kenmare area; and the Listowel Area on Friday nights.

There will be a service in the Ballinskelligs and Waterville area on Saturday evenings, and around Glencar on Sundays.
