Enchantment bubbling over in Kilflynn

- By KATHLEEN O’SULLIVAN

KILFLYNN Village will host its most magical event of the year this weekend. The fairies are currently prepping their trail for the 2018 Kilflynn Enchanted Fairy Festival.

It kicks off on Saturday evening with a parade at 7pm that will have an array of street entertainers, the Kilflynn fairies and many magical characters waving their wands. The village will host entertainment afterwards.

Kilflynn Fairy Festival Committee member Maria O’Regan said the excitement is building in the village.

“The festival involves so many people. We have a committee of 15 of us, and loads of local clubs get involved to help out.

“The excitement around is unbelievable – it’s something that involves the whole family, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

“Last year over 6,000 people attended. With the weather we are expecting this weekend, there is a great opportunity for families to come out early in the mornings, bring a picnic to have during the day and attend the events.”

The weekend is a focus on celebrating family life, dreams and memories. There will be lots of interactive events for children of all ages with craft and science workshops, archery, face-painting, hula hoop workshops, sand play and dancing.

There will also be some great musical acts hitting the stage throughout the weekend for all the enjoy.

The Fairy Trail, the main event of the weekend takes place on Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Visitors take part in creative workshops and play in the meadow full of entertainers, characters, story tellers, music and surprises around every corner.

Picnic areas are available in the Meadow and along the fairy trail. There will also be local food and craft fairs throughout the day catering for all.

The Kilflynn Fairy Committee urge all boys and girls to dress up for the occasion, for what promises to be a fun - filled weekend. A YOUNG man who drove without insurance in the mistaken belief he was insured escaped a disqualification-from-driving at the discretion of a District Court judge last week upon hearing it would cost him his job.

Davin Quilter, Ballyhennessy, Lixnaw, was stopped at a garda checkpoint in Causeway on October 14 of 2017. He failed to produce documentation of insurance as was demanded of him.

Mr Quilter’s solicitor told Judge David Waters, at Listowel court on Thursday, that his client believed his insurance covered the car he was driving, appealing to the Judge for leniency given his client’s new job with supermarket chain Iceland would be in jeopardy. “He would lose his job if disqualified,” the Judge was told.

Judge Waters acceded to the request, exercising his discretion not to put Mr Quilter off the road.
