Cahirciveen Regatta is first of the season
THE first Regatta of the South and Mid Kerry Rowing Season takes place this Sunday in Cahirsiveen with a 4pm start.
The first regatta is always an interesting one as the clubs set out their crews to do battle with big entries expected in the 4 oar races will make for an interesting regatta. The 4 Oar Races range from Under 12s up to senior Men and the clubs deserve great credit for keeping the tradition of the Wooden Boats alive, alot of work goes in behind the scenes and this is very much appreciated by the Board of South and Mid Kerry Rowing.
We are looking forward to seeing the renewed rivalry of the Senior Ladies of Valentia and Sneem who gave us some great races last year. The Senior Men of Callinafercy will be out to defend their Senior Men title and the underage was super competitive last year and it looks to be another brilliantly contested 4 Oar Season again this year with some great races expected in the U-14 Mix U-14 Girls.
A huge race is anticipated in the Under 12s where our new rowers take to the water for the first time it is so important that these categories in particular are well supported after all they are the future of our sport of rowing.
The Seine Boat is down for 7.30 and the crews of Cahirsiveen, Valentia and Cnuicin will be joined by Sneem and later in the season we hope by Cromane and Callinafercy and this race is always one to enjoy. The very sight of these majestic boats powered up and down the tide by the pride of their club is always one to watch the Liberator of Cahirsiveen will want to put in a good performance on home water and will start as the crew to beat by Sunday evening at 8.30 we will have the result.
