Ladies away to the Premier in first round of new All Ireland qualifier system

- BY DAN KEARNEY

KERRY will now go forward to the new All Ireland qualifier system. The new format comprises of four groups of three teams, with a provincial champion, a provincial runner up and a losing provincial semi finalist in each group.

Kerry have been drawn in Group 1 and will have an away tie against defeated Munster semi-finalists Tipperary on July 14. Kerry will then welcome Ulster finalists Donegal for a home tie on July 28.

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the All Ireland quarter-final, while the team that finishes bottom will have to go into a relegation semi-final for the Intermediate grade.

If Kerry finish top of their group they will face the runners up of Group 2 on August 6. This will probably be either Monaghan or Armagh as Cork are likely to top this group.

If Kerry finish second in their group the will face the winners of group 4 on August 12. This is a particularly tough group with All Ireland champions Dublin likely to beat Westmeath in the Leinster final, as well as Mayo and Cavan .

They will have to overcome a difficult away trip to Tipperary first though.

The premier county gave Cork a tough enough battle in the Munster semi final before eventually losing by five points.

Donegal will be equally as tough. They gave Armagh a 9-21 to 4-8 hiding in the Ulster final so Kerry will have to be at full tilt to gain a victory here.
