Tralee qualify in Senior Cup
TRALEE’S senior cup team are heading to Thurles to contest the Munster semi-finals having qualified from the West Munster area at Dooks after a weekend of some great action and not without a surprise or two.
In the opening fixture, the host club surprisingly edged out a fancied Killarney side by three and a half to one and a half, but perhaps the biggest shock of the weekend was the elimination of Ballybunion at the hands of Kanturk by the odd match in five, where surprisingly the in-form Peter Sheehan and Ed Stack were not included in the side that lost two matches on the nineteenth to the County Cork club.
In the only other game in round one, Newcastlewest beat Doneraile (4-1).
Tralee who had received a bye in round one, beat Dooks by three and a half to one and a half in round two on Saturday afternoon, while Newcastlewest beat Kanturk by four matches to one and the Tralee men then went on to beat Newcastlewest in Sunday’s final by a similar margin to qualify for the Munster semi-finals at Thurles on the weekend of August 18 & 19 where they meet either Nenagh or Castletroy with Dungarvan and Monkstown contesting the other semi-final. FEDERATION Secretary Paddy Mulvihill of Ballybunion is seeking the mobile phone numbers of the Dr Billy O’Sullivan Shield managers from each club to make them available to opposing managers to facilitate the organisation of fixtures and practice etc.
Club secretaries are asked to forward these numbers to Paddy at kerryfederation2018@gmail.com
The completion date for the first round is Monday July 16 and remember that the honour on the first tee for this competition will be determined by the tossing of a coin and play will be from the markers used for general play during the day- generally the white markers.
Just to remind you again, the draw for round one is Castlerosse v Ross, Killorglin v Ceann Sibéal, Ring of Kerry v Dooks, Castlegregory v Ballybunion, Beaufort v Parknasilla, Kenmare v Killarney, Tralee v Ballyheigue and Waterville v Castleisland.
