SIXTY-FOUR players took part in last Sunday’s Bob Casey Memorial Scratch Cup in Tralee with a first ever Scratch Cup victory for Castleisland’s James Dignan. Dignan added a closing six under par round to a 36 hole total of 15 under par in registering 21 under par for a three stroke victory over his nearest challengers. Listowel’s Declan McCarron and Jamie Blake from the host club both finished on 18 under par with a better closing round giving McCarron second overall from Blake in third. Munster Strokeplay Champion Kieran Earls won the Final 18 prize meanwhile with a score of four under par.
The Intermediate section was won by Deerpark’s James Fleming meanwhile as he had a score of six under par, the same as Tralee’s Padraig Hobbart but one with a better back 18. Countback was also needed to decide the Junior section as Tim Scannell from the hosts and club-mate David Hobbert were both tied on five over par with Scannell getting the prize on countback like Fleming in the Intermediate.
Meanwhile, Lisa O’Connor won the Ladies prize with a score of 121. Lisa is also the sole Kerry representative this weekend in the National Ladies Strokeplay which takes place in Collins in Cork. The County Board wishes her well in the Junior grade.
For the men, meanwhile, this weekend sees the National Strokeplay Qualifiers take place in Castleisland from 4pm in the afternoon this coming Saturday. We should also learn the composition of all the Kerry teams for the Munster and National Inter-County competitions as the event serves as the last trial for all our men’s teams.
Next Monday night there is a County Board Meeting in Castleisland from 8pm.
All clubs are encouraged to send delegates to same.
