Garda Mark spoke to the children about the importance of believing in themselves even when things aren’t going well. He encouraged them to keep trying no matter how tough the situation seems to be. Garda Mark is no stranger to pushing his body to the limit having taken part in iron man competitions in Austria and Lanzarote. The Friends for Life programme helps children to develop resilience by teaching them effective strategies to cope with, problem solve and manage all kinds of emotional distress, including worry, stress, change and anxiety. Skills learned throughout the programme help children both now and in later life. TIDY TOWNS FUN RUN/WALK

Glorious sunshine greeted the runners on what was a spectacular Sunday morning for a jaunt around The Ring. Everyone in the parish who painted, planted or mowed must be acknowledged as the course was indeed looking its absolute best for the 220 runners who came as far away as Midleton and Essex to take part in the event. Big Jim created an energetic atmosphere around the starting line just before our first ever female race starter, Helen O’ Hara, got proceedings underway. As always our many stewards were acknowledged by several runners on the fantastic job they did on managing the course and getting all the participants around safely. Afterwards a delectable array of sandwiches, cakes and fresh fruit, which had been prepared by our wonderful team of catering volunteers, awaited everyone back at The Community Care Centre. Tidy Towns Kilmoyley would like to acknowledge all those who contributed water, milk etc. and to encourage the support of our several sponsors who help to make the event possible.
