GREEN FLAG

Congrats to Scartaglin NS who were recently awarded their first Green Flag in recognition for tackling issues of litter and waste in their school and community. The pupils assisted by teacher Cora Doody worked to reduce the amount of litter and waste in the school and they also increased their recycling output. Receiving the green flag was a wonderful achievement in what was a whole school effort and much hard work put in by all the pupils. So well done again to all for having their work and efforts rewarded.

NEW SPUDS

I had my first taste of a home grown new potato when I called to see Pat Joe Keane in St Patrick’s Terrace last Monday. 89 years young Pat Joe had set his few drills of Duke of York potatoes on 20 March and was last Monday sampling the fruits of his labour. His potatoes were of a good size, floury and with the distinctive taste of an Irish new potato. A tasty and efficient worker who worked for many years in the construction industry Pat Joe always had the reputation for punctuality and reliability. Go maire sé an Chéad.
