FEXCO ANNOUNCES 175 NEW JOBS FOR KILLORGLIN

- By TADHG EVANS

FINANCIAL technology company FEXCO yesterday announced it is expanding its operations in Killorglin, with 175 jobs to be created in the town over a three-year period.

The announcement was made in Killorglin by Enterprise Ireland CEO Julie Sinnamon, FEXCO CEO Denis McCarthy, and FEXCO Chairman Brian McCarthy.

A company spokesperson told The Kerryman that all 175 jobs will be based in Killorglin, and the company is seeking experts in information communication technology (ICT), engineering, software, and sales.

It has not yet been decided how these jobs will be split between FEXCO’s Iveragh Road centre and its new facility at the site of the former Liebig factory, Killarney road.

The jobs do not apply to the RDI hub, a joint venture between Fexco, IT Tralee and Kerry County Council, which is also set to be based at the former Liebig factory building.

The purpose of the expansion is to serve new product development opportunities in Ireland, the spokesperson added, and the three-year recruitment process is already underway. The company said its continued growth, coupled with support from Enterprise Ireland, facilitated yesterday’s announcement.

“Today marks a significant investment, by Fexco, into the south west,” CEO Denis McCarthy said. “Our plans to hire an additional 175 people for our Irish operations, based primarily in Killorglin, demonstrate Fexco’s commitment to this region, one synonymous with entrepreneurship, innovation, and success in the ICT and fintech sectors.

“Companies from this region continue to lead and compete internationally, representing Irish business on the world stage, something we at Fexco are inherently proud of.”

Minister Brendan Griffin TD said, “Today’s jobs announcement is absolutely mighty news for Kerry and Ireland.

“I wish to congratulate and thank the McCarthy family and all the brilliant team in Fexco, as well as the government’s jobs agency, Enterprise Ireland, who are important partners with Fexco.

“It goes to show what can be accomplished by Kerry-based enterprises and gives great hope for the future of our county.”

The company currently employs 1,000 people in Killoglin. Nobody is yet working at the Liebig site, with the building to be completed next year, a spokesperson explained. Fexco employs some 2,300 people through its Irish and international operations, which span 29 countries.

Those interested in the new roles in Killorglin are invited to submit a CV to careers@fexco.com.

The announcement follows figures released recently by the Government, which showed Killorglin had 2,038 jobs, despite having a resident worker population of just 922. The data followed long-running calls for additional investment in the road and transport network serving the town.
