Fairies make wishes come true in enchanted Kilflynn
IT is time for the fairies to recuperate for another year after hosting their annual Enchanted Fairy Festival in Kilflynn last weekend.
The village put on its wings and spread its magic dust to welcome everyone from near and far to the two-day event that kicked off with a parade on Saturday evening.
Festival Committee Member Maria O’Regan said that everyone’s wishes for the weekend came true.
“It was fantastic. It’s always a weekend that means so much to the children, families and everyone in Kilflynn,” Maria said.
“We had an incredible turnout of 5,000 people. This year there were lots of new bits which went great. Sunday was the big day. The fairy trail was the most magical part. Everyone was led through the meadow to be met by the Wild Boar Warriors, with little fairy plots scattered around the place and the wonderful fairies themselves,” said Maria.
This year there was a dummy tree, where children could hang their dummies and leave them for the fairies to take. There was also a teddy bear hospital held by Abbeydorney Ladies Football Club and craft fairs in both the Columbus Centre and carpark.
“Children were also given a ribbon they wrote wishes on, which were then hung on the wishing tree. It looked incredible afterwards,” Maria said.
The fairies brought the good weather with them too, so everyone was able to stay outdoors exploring and having picnics.
“It was a community effort. We were so happy with how the whole weekend went – everything from the organisation, to the wonderful entertainers, and to how little tidying up was needed at the end of it all.”
