Calling all communities - don’t miss the chance to join Culture Night fun

AN even bigger and more colourful Culture Night is in the offing for 2018, and that’s saying a lot following the night of music, song, dance and more that was celebrated across the Kingdom in 2017.

Culture Night takes place this year on Friday, September 21, offering the public a free opportunity to see the work of artists and creative industry professionals, arts organisations and cultural venues on the night.

Organised by the Arts Office at Kerry County Council, they are reaching out to new communities and all towns and villages to get involved in events for their area.

Arts Officer Kate Kennelly said that Culture Night is a great boost for businesses in the county.

“A great many venues across Kerry stay open late into the night and use the platform as an opportunity to engage with the public, to find new audiences and new visitors to their premises.”

It also represents an opportunity for communities to plan their culture night events so that audiences can move from venue to venue to take in all the events.

An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Norma Foley, said that the emphasis is “on arts activity across all artforms and is designed so that anyone can experience an arts event in their local area”.

There is also additional support from Creative Ireland this year: “As a teacher I have seen first – hand the huge benefits to young people who experience the arts, not just in self – expression and creativity, but also for the positive benefits to mental health and well – being,” Councillor Foley said. For anyone interested in getting involved, contact the Arts Office by July 20 by email to arts@kerrycoco.ie or by phone to 066 7183782/7183541.
