‘It’s been a dream come true opening a new pharmacy...’
NORMA Doran describes it as a ‘dream come true’ opening a new pharmacy in the heart of Listowel. The cards, flowers and good wishes that have come in recent weeks serve as welcome endorsement of Norma’s hard work and ambition. This has also brought home to her the huge sense of pride people have in Listowel and the way they support local business.
A native of Rathea, Norma now lives in the parish of Duagh with her husband Fergal [Sheridan] and their three children, Luke, Ronan and Kate. Norma studied pharmacy in Trinity College and spent 10 years working and managing a number of pharmacies in Kildare and Monaghan before returning to Kerry where she worked in Harnett’s Pharmacy in Listowel for 9 years.
Doran’s Pharmacy recently enjoyed a memorable opening day when people gathered to help Norma turn the page on a new chapter in her life. It was an occasion for ribbon cutting and lots of presentations - including the presentation of first-aid kits to three clubs that Norma’s children are involved with: Duagh GAA, St Joseph’s Basketball Club, and Lios Tuathaill Athletics Club. In-store events proved a great success, especially the presence of local midwife Eleanor Hayes who was available on the day to answer baby related queries.
“Number 78 Church St. was originally owned and built by Lord Listowel in the 1850s. We bought the premises two years ago and Fergal and I are very proud to have restored it to its past glory,” Norma said.
“My staff - Catherine Nolan Lyons, Ryanne Leahy, and Deirdre Molyneaux - are a very important part of my journey as they all bring a wealth of experience and have put so much heart and energy into the pharmacy before we even opened its doors. I am privileged to have such a dedicated bunch.”
