the Shield Final to Owenmore Gaels of Sligo the Cordal/Scartaglen U14 team returned to a hero’s welcome Sunday night. It was a huge achievemen­t to represent your parish and your County. To be the only team from Kerry to make a final shows the talent and desire this group of players have. Credit must go to the coaches and mentors at both clubs for the time and dedication they have given the team. Thank you to the parents for the encouragem­ent and support they have showing along this journey. Thank you to club officials from both sides for the work that has gone on behind the scenes in the lead up to this tournament. To all the sponsors who helped contribute to the financial cost of this trip, the generosity showing was greatly appreciate­d. Thanks to the supporters who travelled and wished the team well over the weekend. To our host club St. Kevins in Dunleer thank you for making everyone feel so welcome from the moment they arrived & for the presentati­on made to the players. It was very much appreciate­d. GAA LOTTO: There was no winner of last week’s lotto draw. The numbers drawn were; 2, 4, 16 and 22. Next week’s draw takes place in Savage’s Bar with a jackpot of Euro 1,200, thanks to all those who continue to support the Lotto. Seniors -- Tarbert had a comfortabl­e victory over Ballylongf­ord last Saturday evening, winning on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-11. Tarbert starting strongly and were leading 8 points to two after fifteen minutes thanks to four frees from Gavin Breen, two excellent worked points from Kevin Enright and also points from Andrew Doherty and Daniel O’Connor. Bally then had a purple patch and were unlucky not to get a least two goals but did manage to reduce to deficit to one point with five minutes to half time. Further points by Mark Buckley and Shea McDonnell helped to increase Tarbert’s lead at half time to 10 points to 7. An early goal by Andrew Doherty and another well worked movement from the full back line allowed man of the match Shea McDonnell hit the Bally net to put Tarbert in full control half way through the second half leading by 2-12 to 0-9. The return to senior football by Eamon Leahy who was introduced as a substitute to score the final point of the game. Tarbert now travel to St. Michael’s Foilmore in the next round in what will be a vital game in our push for promotion. Subs who played Pa Hanlon, Ambrose Lanigan and Eamon Leahy (0-1). A minutes silence before the game was observed for the late James O’Sullivan who sadly passed away the previous Friday in Bantry. James was part of the 1948 championsh­ip winning team and the club wishes to extend their sympathy to his family in Bantry. JUNIORS : Tarbert juniors play Cordal this Friday evening in Shannon Park 7pm in the County Junior league. COISTE NA NOG : Tarbert U-14 team defeated Beale last Monday evening and away to Bally/Asdee this Monday night. Tarbert/Moyvane U-16 team commence their County League campaign with a home game on Wednesday 11th July while the combinatio­n minor team travel to Listowel on the 12th July to take on the home side in the North Kerry league. CONGRATULA­TIONS : Well done to the Kerry junior team and to our own John O’Connell who was part of the management team on the hard fought victory over Cork last week in the Munster Junior final, the team now take on Kildare in the All-Ireland semi final and we wish them and all the Kerry teams the very best in the week’s ahead.
