Firefighters in the heat of battle

- BY SINEAD KELLEHER

KERRY Fire Service is warning people to be careful about using barbecues or lighting fires close to vegetation in the current hot weather after firefighters had to battle a number of blazes in recent days, including in Tullig in Killorglin and in Fossa, Killarney.

Vegetation is very dry at the moment which could lead to uncontrollable blazes, the fire service warns.

At Lackabane firefighters battled a blaze that burned through dry vegetation at the rear of houses in the area. Fortunately alternative water sources are available to the Fire Service.

Meanwhile, warm temperatures are forcast to continue in Kerry, athough not as hot as in recent weeks.
