Scissorswielder escapes conviction

A MAN who produced a scissors during an argument with another male, and who also threatened a woman in a separate incident, was given the benefit of the Probation Act at Kenmare District Court last week after the court heard he had not come to the attention of the gardaí since the incidents.

Andre Reis with addresses at 10 April Drive, Lodge Wood, and 34 Cill Mhuire Kenmare, had come before Kenmare District Court for assault and public order charges including threatening and abusive behaviour, in relation to a row at Ard Bhearna Estate on February 11, 2017, and another row two days later.

Evidence had been heard at Kenmare District Court in relation to the two incidents earlier this year and solicitor Pádraig O’Connell said the case had been adjourned to see how Mr Reis got on in the interim. He said the incidents were “quasi domestic” and that nothing had happened since. This was confirmed by Sgt Miriam Mullhall Nolan, who said that it was a “break-down in relations” which had led to the incidents. Judge David Waters gave him the benefit of the Probation Act in all matters.
