Laurie’s big casting call in Kenmare

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

KENMARE is set to take centre-stage in a short film scripted and produced by a local man.

Laurie Shaw from Kilgarvan held open castings last week to find locals to play the main roles in his short film “Let her go in Darkness” which he is producing and scripting for his MA in film and screen media thesis.

The budding film producer’s short film will be set in Reenagros woods in Kenmare, and he hopes it will feature some up and coming actors and actresses.

Laurie has made a number of short films, but he intends to progress his career with his latest project and he also hopes he can enter film festivals around the world.

His film tells the story of a girl who goes missing from her home town and whose presence is soon forgotten by the locals. Her best friend goes on a mission to try and find out what happened her.

Laurie is seeking a total of seven actors, including two for the main roles of Frankie and Linda. He held open castings in Kenmare on Friday and Saturday last. However, he is still asking anyone interested in playing a role in the film to contact him.

Laurie says that he will continue to pursue his love of film in the coming years and that this project is a stepping stone for him. It will also put the town of Kenmare on the film map, he said. Anyone interested can contact Laurie on Laurieshaw94@hotmail.com
