SENIORS: Castle progressed to the final of the Lee Strand 2018 West Kerry Senior League following a comprehensive win over old rivals Lispole on Sunday afternoon in Lispole. The teams exchanged scores early on with Jimmy O’Grady pointing from a free before Cathal O’Sullivan replied for the home team. At the end of the first quarter Castle led 5 2 thanks to points from Jimmy O’Grady and a long range effort from Michael Scanlon. Brandon Hoare tormented the Lispole defence with his pace and was rewarded when he kicked over his first point of game and then Michael Scanlon 1-1 in a matter of minutes to put Castle in a commanding lead of 1-07 to 0-2 after 20 minutes. Castle did miss a number of scoring chances before half time including 2 very good goal chances and Lispole began to find their feet and reduced the gap through scores from Cathal O’Sullivan. Gavin O’Connor then came forward to kick a very good score to leave the half time score Castle 1-08 Lispole 0-5.

It was Lispole that started the second half the brighter and when Cathal O’Sullivan reduced the deficit to 4 points it looked like there may be a way back for them. Brandon Hoare stemmed the tide with his second of the day. Midway through the second half Castle restored their 6 point advantage thanks to points from Anton Kelliher and Maurice Slattery. Lispole launched balls into the Castle square in the hope of getting a goal but they dealt with them comfortably thanks to good work by Shane Kenny, Gearoid Fitzgerald and Podge Rohan. Alan Fitzgerald worked tirelessly around the middle during this period and turned over a number of Lispole attacks to relieve the pressure. Tomás O’Connor and Patrick O’Donoghue kicked the scores of the game and further scores from Anton Kelliher and Timmy Moriarty saw Castle run out comfortable winners on a score line of Castle 1-16 Lispole 0-09.
