There was a profound sense of sadness and regret when the news came through last Thursday 5 July of the death of Tommy Bridgeman, Ballyconry and Tarbert. Tommy, aged 60 died after a long battle with cancer. In compliance with his wishes his wife and family requested a private funeral service. As the early morning funeral cortege arrived in Tarbert on its way to Cork on Saturday 7 July there was a very large guard of honour provided by former footballer­s who played with and against him . It was testimony to his ability and popularity that former members of Tarbert, Shannon Rangers, Listowel Emmets, Kerry Minor and U-21 teams as well as friends and neighbours came together to bid him a final slán abhaile. A stylish, strong and accomplish­ed footballer he played on winning Kerry Minor and U-21 teams in the 1970’s. He was one of nine children born to Bill and Mary Bridgeman, St. Patrick’s Terrace, Tarbert. He was predecease­d by his sister Rose and brother Derry. Sympathy of the community is extended to his
