Listowel unites for Áras Mhuire

- By TADHG EVANS

TWO William Street premises have teamed up in the name of a superb cause in recent times, and the fruits of their efforts will be on show this Friday night, July 27, in the heart of Listowel town.

John Griffin Butchers has joined forces with hosts the Saddle Bar to offer up to 300 people a night of barbecue food, live music, dance floor, marquee, two free drinks, and spot prizes.

And if all that were not tempting enough on its own, the 8pm event is all in the name of Áras Mhuire nursing home, described by organisers as a central part of the community.

John Griffin has worked with many businesses and locals in the community over the years to organise such fund-raisers. On Friday, he’ll provide some mouth-watering food free to ticket-holders, and he’s hoping to add to the €30,000-or-so he has helped raise for good causes over the years. “Tickets are almost sold out,” he said. “Ourselves and The Saddle Bar have teamed up this year, and we’re hoping to put on a massive event and raise the biggest total to date.

“Tickets cost €15 and are limited, with 100 per cent of funds going to Áras Mhuire, which is a central part of our community.”

If one wishes to purchase a ticket, they can contact John at (068) 22030 or phone The Saddle Bar at (068) 22720. THE Alzheimer Society of Ireland will hold the second meeting of the Munster regional group of its carer advocacy network, the Dementia Carers Campaign Network (DCCN), in the Clayton Hotel in Limerick city this Friday, July 27, from 12pm to 2pm.

The DCCN, which was set up in 2013, is a national campaigning group and is made up of people who have experience of caring for a loved one with dementia. For more information on the DCCN, contact clodagh. whelan@alzheimer.ie.
