HAVING A BLAST AT TARBERT FEST
THE good ol’ days were well and truly back in Tarbert at the weekend as an estimated 1,000 people flocked to north Kerry for the rejuvenated Tarbert Summer Festival.
The brainchild of the great team of organisers and volunteers at the Tarbert Development Association (TDA), the festival was jam-packed with sold-out activities for both young and old. These included plenty of food and drink, a sold-out guided trip to the lighthouse, a kids art workshop in Tarbert Wood, a family fun day at the pier, and a Tarbert Fancy Dress Parade, attended by none other than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle (pictured right).
“We were delighted with it. We were blown away with the attendance. We had 40 kids at the art workshop in the woods, and we had 200 people in for the guided tour of the lighthouse. I suppose it speaks to the success of the weekend that there was so many people there that I couldn’t count them all,” said TDA Chairperson Brian Carey, speaking to The Kerryman on Monday.
Brian said that he and the rest of his team wanted to bring events back to the town, events they had enjoyed during their own childhood.
“We’re slowly building it all back up. The Tarbert Family Fun parade this year was very well attended in particular. There were over 100 entrants this year from local groups all over the village. We are absolutely delighted,” he said.
