FAMILY FUN IN SNEEM
IT PROVES ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL AND SUNNY FESTIVAL FOR ALL THE FAMILY
LIKE all festivals this summer, the good weather has been a huge boost, and this rang true in Sneem village last week as they hosted their annual Sneem Summer Festival, with a host of events for children and adults to choose from over the five-day festival line-up.
And like all festivals, huge local support is key to success, and the local community rowed in behind the festival.
“We got great local support, and we are very grateful for that,” says Chairperson Yvonne O’Brien.
Among the highlights this year was the tennis ball race, one of the festival’s fund-raisers and great fun for all the family, as patrons waited to see which tennis ball made it home first.
The crab-fishing was a great success, as always, and this year there was also crab racing, which added to the entertainment.
The festival kicked off on Wednesday with a family BBQ, and this, along with a packed day and night agenda, led to a successful week in the village. This year’s tractor-backing was another key event and saw a huge number of men, and a lady, compete to win the shield. Ultimately, it was a member of the organising committee, Brian Foley, that took the overall prize.
Inflatable fun and the crafty kids camp entertained the kids, which is what the festival is really all about. The same could be said of the Richard Walsh memorial tournament on Saturday, which brought young people from all over Kerry to play in the tournament at the Sneem GAA grounds.
Sneem’s Got talent also showcased the talent of the younger generations and brought some lively entertainment to the stage for all to enjoy.
