The below is a case study for 3 years before & after we installed a 6KWp Photovoltaic solar system on a dairy farm in Co. Kerry. Dated 24th November 2017
Electric usage on a dairy farm for 3 years before and the first 3 years after we installed 6KWp of photovoltaic, in two of our 3KWp photovoltaic solar systems on a south facing shed roof. Please note that there’s a family home on this electric meter, so what we have done is take €1,000 for the home usage per year.
Years 24.08.11 to 21.08.14 milk produced 2,300,000 litres, electric usage: Days 70,685 KWH’s, Nights 76,530WHs. This generated 76,551KG of Co2 carbon working on 0.52KG per KWH (unit) of electric used on the farm. This works out at €0.00829 per litre of milk produced after farm house usage is taking out from electric costs. €19,082.25
Years 26.11.14 to 27.11.17: milk produced 2,900,000 litres, electric usage Days 47,810 KWHs, Nights 59,833KWHs. This generated 55,974KG of Co2 carbon working on 0.52KG per KWH (unit) of electric used on the farm that works out a saving of 39,572 KWHs & 20,576KG on Co2 carbon over the last 3 years after our photovoltaic solar system was installed. This works out at €0.00453 per litre of milk produced after farm house usage taking out of electric costs. €13,146.45 saving €5,935.80 on electric, there was a saving of 20,577KG of Co2 carbon plus an extra 600,000 litre of milk produced in years 2014/2017 than in 2011/ 2014. Plus when you take in the extra 600,000 litres milk produced the savings is €8,455.80 in the 3years. Plus tax incentive of up to 52% on the cost of the photovoltaic solar system.
