Kerry 1-15 Limerick 0-8

KERRY welcomed Limerick to Tom Healy Park, Abbeydorne­y on Saturday evening in the second round of the Liberty Insurance All-Ireland Premier Junior Camogie Championsh­ip.

The teams had previously met in the Munster semi-final and the Kerry girls had been victorious on that occasion. Kerry had one change to their line-up. Elaine Ryall replaced Alannah Whelan.

Kerry started brightly and in the first minute the Kilmoyley combinatio­n of Laura Collins and Jessica Fitzell got the Kingdom on the scoreboard. Patrice Diggin converted a ’45 and a free and in the fourth and sixth minutes.

Within a minute Kerry had found the Limerick net. A move started by Elaine Ryall was continued by Laura Collins and Aoife Behan and Captain Jackie Horgan lashed the sliotar to the Limerick net after her initial attempt had been brilliantl­y saved by Limerick Goalkeeper Leah O’Carroll.

In the 10th minute Noelle Curtin got Limerick off the mark and this was followed by a brace from the stick of the industriou­s Katie Heelan. A great run by Jackie Horgan in the 12th minute was rewarded with a white flag.

The same player supplied a beautiful pass to Patrice Diggin in the 18th and she split the Limerick posts. In the 22nd a brilliant bit of work by Norette Casey resulted in a pinpoint pass to Julianne O’Keeffe and she put Kerry into a 1-6 to 0-3 lead.

However, Limerick finished the half strongly when Noelle Curtin got her second point in the 28th minute and Karen Cunningham converted two frees in the 29th and second minute of injury time. Half-time score; Kerry 1-6 Limerick 0-6.

A Patrice Diggin free in the 33rd and two points by Jackie Horgan and Julianne O’Keeffe in the 35th and 36th minutes put Kerry into a 1-9 to 0-6 lead. Katie Heelan and Chloe O’Brien replied for Limerick in the 44th and 46th.

In the 47th Patrice Diggin pushed Kerry further ahead with a point from play. This was quickly followed by Norette Casey’s second point of the day. Kerry made a double substituti­on.

Alannah Whelan replaced Jessica Fitzell and Rachel McCarthy replaced Aoife Behan. In the 52nd minute Jackie Horgan scored another fantastic point. Kate Buckley replaced Julianne O’Keeffe.

In the 55th Limerick bore down on goal but Aoife Fitzgerald performed a brilliant save to keep her net intact. Kerry made another double substituti­on. Rachel Burke replaced Elaine Ryall and Megan Weir replaced Caoimhe Shanahan. In the 59th, 60th and first minute of injury time, Patrice Diggin from a free and two from play from Norette Casey and Jackie Horgan completed the scoring.

Next up is a trip to Offaly on Saturday, 4 August.
