Photograph­s of family occasions, Christenin­gs, First Communion, Confirmati­on, debs, 21st, weddings, etc, both old and new are very welcome.

Abbeydorne­y CAUSEWAY CAMOGIE CLUB

Calling all 11, 12- and 13-yearold girls to come to Causeway sports field on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Give camogie a try for the next few weeks and see what you think. Its a great way to make new friends and have some fun. Helmet and hurley will be provided if needed.

KerryHospi­ce Foundation HEAD SHAVE

A huge thank you to Nora Cahill, who organised a coffee morning last Friday in an Cearnog pub in Tralee. There was a great turnout and it was hugely supported.

On Friday night both Nora and Simon Moynihan followed this up with a head shave which again was hugely successful. Well done to all who took part and we are very grateful to all who supported in any way.

UPCOMING EVENT

The Robert Dowd memorial walk will take place on August 3 at seven o’clock from the Aquadome and will be followed by a barbecue in Benners. There will be registrati­on on night before the walk from seven to 8.30 in the Aquadome. There is a 5km and a 10km and you can register online too by clicking in to Primo events.

VHI MINI MARATHON

A huge thank you to Blanthaid Buckley, who is our former chairman’s Ted Moynihan’s granddaugh­ter. She ran the VHI mini marathon recently and made a cheque presentati­on yesterday to Mary Shanahan after raising funds for KHF.

GAA

As a result of being named as one of the charities of the GAA and receiving a grant from them, we purchased one of three recliners this week and handed it over to the staff in the Day Unit. It is fantastic to be associated with the GAA and with their help we will be able to purchase more equipment for both units.

Scartaglen CHILDCARE CENTRE CAMP

Scartaglin Childcare Centre’s second summer camp of the season will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, August 7, 8 and nine from 9.30 a.m. to1 p.m. each day. GAA LOTTO DRAW

Scartaglin GAA clubs next lotto draw will be in O’Connors Bar on Sunday, July 29, when the jackpot will be €4,000. Tickets are available from usual outlets or from club officers.

GRAVEYARD MASS

The annual open air Mass in Scartaglin cemetery will be celebrated on Saturday morning, August 4, at 10 a.m. Meanwhile the grave yard committee are anxious that people attend to graves of relatives or loved ones and make sure that all is in readiness for this Mass and that any rubbish or unwanted items are carried home and disposed of with their household rubbish. Under no circumstan­ces should rubbish be dumped in the grounds of the graveyard.

GRAVEYARD MASSES

Don’t forget t’s that time of the year again when the annual Graveyard Masses take place. It is wonderful to see so many people at these Masses each year. Sometimes we doubt it, but it shows that respect is alive and well. Please let anyone living outside the parish, who has relatives resting in these graveyards know that these are the dates and times. Monday, August 6: Ahavoher Cemetery at 8 p.m. Tuesday, August 7: Old Knockanure at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 8: Murhur at 8 p.m.

PARISH THANKSGIVI­NG DAY

Last Sunday was the annual parish celebratio­n day. This is a great day of celebratio­n for any parish and well done to Fr Kevin for his foresight. The day began with Mass in the presbytery grounds at midday followed by a barbecue and entertainm­ent. This is its second year and again the day that was well attended and very enjoyable.

Tarbert DEATHS

The death took place on July 18 of Rita Bergman, née Doyle, of London and formerly of Tieraclea, Tarbert. Rita, aged 94 years, was the youngest and last surviving member of the Doyle family of Tieraclea. She was one of a family of six girls and four boys born to James Doyle and Mary O’Brien of Drangan, Tipperary. Three of the girls became teaching nuns in the United States. Dick, Nellie and Eddie remained at home looking after their small farm. The Doyles were a thrifty, hard working and caring family and as a community we were all in the better for knowing them. Rita was predecease­d some years ago by her husband Fred. She is survived by her three children, nephews and nieces to whom the sympathy of the community is extended.

Sympathy of the community is also extended to Tony and Evelyn O’Sullivan, Doonard, on the death of Tony’s brother, Tom of Bungara, Listowel. Tom, in his early nineties, died following a farm accident. Following Requiem Mass in St Mary’s Church, Listowel, his remains were interred in Lisselton Cemetery.

DROWNING COMMEMORAT­ION

Wednesday, August 15, next will mark the 125th. Anniversar­y of the Shannon Boating Tragedy of 1893. This year to remember this special anniversar­y Tarbert Historical Society will stage a living history enactment of the tragic event. This will include the participat­ion of boys and girls from fifth. And sixth. classes in Tarbert National School, as discussed with them and will be staged in the green area opposite the Bridewell. If your child is interested in taking part please contact Patrick Lynch at 36117 on or before Wednesday, August 1, next.

KERRY TO LAOIS

To celebrate European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 Laois heritage groups are organising ‘The Return of the Seven Septs of Laois’ for Saturday, August 24. There is an attractive programme of events organised for the day including guided tours of Emo Court and Gardens, Pageant at the Rock of Dunamase, Pass of the Plumes pageant, Irish/ Austrian folk music, Abbeyleix Heritage House and the Titanic connection, visit to Tarbert Bridge. Tarbert Historical Society will be organising a bus and participat­ing in the events on the day. Anybody interested in travelling to Laois should contact Patrick Lynch at 068 36117.

GRAVEYARD MASSES

St Mary’s graveyard Mass takes place this Friday, July 27, at 7 p.m. Boundary walls and the Resurrecti­on Cross in the cemetery extension have been painted. Visitors are asked to note that in the interest of water conservati­on a rainwater butt is in place on the lower level around from the sacristy. Kilnaughti­n Mass takes place on Friday, August 10, at 7 p.m. and people are asked to bring their own containers for watering flowers.

CIARRAÍ ABÚ

In a very entertaini­ng game at Cusack Park, Ennis, on Saturday Kerry won their fourth. Junior allIreland in a row, defeating Galway by two points. Comhghaird­eas to Kerry and selector, John O’Connell, Tarbert. At Clones on Sunday, Kerry proved the adage that ‘a game is never over till the final whistle is blown’.

LENAMORE ROVERS
