Sneem Digital Hub to open next month
AT least two Dublin based IT companies are interested in relocating some of their workforce to the Sneem Digital Hub, according to director and project manager, John V O’Sullivan.
The Sneem Digital Hub is set to create up to 34 jobs in the village, when it opens its doors in just a few weeks, providing a base for companies to set up and grow their business in a rural area.
The IDA-supported project is now almost completed with final works taking place on the development over the coming weeks and the official opening has been scheduled for Saturday, September 22.
Manager, Aidan Murray, has been appointed to oversee the unit and companies seeking to relocate to Kerry are now being sought. The digital hub is located at what was once an old dance hall which has been transformed to bring more opportunities to the village by providing a base for companies or solo workers to relocate to.
High speed broadband and hightech video conferencing services have all been installed in a bid to attract business to the hub.
Discussions are taking place with a number of IT companies and at least two companies have mooted the idea of moving to the rural base to their staff.
There are also at least seven people seeking ‘ hot-desks’ set up for solo individuals to allow them develop their business or to work with others. However, a permanent tenant has yet to be confirmed.
“We have had a lot of interest and people have visited the centre. They are all IT companies and discussions are taking place with staff,” added John V.
Costing €500k to develop, the project has been ongoing for more than three years and is strongly supported by the local community who have fundraised to get the idea off the ground. They hope that it will help save their rural community.
