KILMOYLEY

-

JUVENILE HURLING CLUB: Our U8 team played their second Super Games blitz on Thursday last in Ardfert. They played three matches against Lixnaw, Tralee Parnells and Abbeydorney. Some great performances by the team in each of their three matches. Their third Super Games blitz is scheduled for Thursday evening next in Kilmoyley.

U12: Phase 2 of the County League is due to commence on Friday next. Details to follow during the week. SENIORS: Last Sunday’s Garveys County senior hurling championship final ended in disappointment for Kilmoyley followers in the most dramatic circumstances, with Lixnaw keeper Martin Stackpool saving a Daniel Collins penalty in the last puck of the game. Kilmoyley were not as fluent as they were in their semi final, but battled gamely until the final whistle, against a Lixnaw side inspired by a brilliant display by Shane Conway. Lixnaw controlled the early exchanges as both defences dominated, but a well taken Daniel Collins goal brought Kilmoyley back into the game. Heading towards half time, the scoreboard looked more positive at 0-7 to 1-2 for Kilmoyley, who played into a strong wind in the opening thirty minutes. But Lixnaw then struck for a decisive goal before the break, although Collins did finish the half with a free to leave Kilmoyley four points adrift. Kilmoyley began positively after the restart but with both sides exchanging scores they actually fell six points behind until Maurice O’Connor struck for Kilmoyley’s second goal on the third quarter. Two late points from Kieran Regan levelled the game entering the final stages, but Man of the Match Shane Conway stepped up with two brilliant points to edge his side ahead.

Then came the dramatic finalé with the penalty, and although the ball was knocked into the net from the rebound, the goal was disallowed by referee Fergal Horgan. Great credit must go to the panel of players and to the management for their effort and commitment throughout the year. They gave their best effort but unfortunately did not have the bit of luck that was needed. Well done to everybody in the parish who did their best to support the team, and added lots of colour with flags, banners and bunting; the effort was really appreciated. Congratulations to Lixnaw on their ninth county title, and best wishes to them on their Munster campaign when they take on the Tipperary champions.
