A Charity Golf Classic, in aid of Brú Columbanus in Cork, will be held at Ballyheigu­e Castle Golf Club on this Saturday, September 1, with tee times reserved from 7am to 4pm. Teams of 4, any combinatio­n, will cost €140 with prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive. Handicaps for Non GUI members are Men 18, Ladies 24.

There will be special guests on the day and to book tee times phone John White on 087 6732856. The Classic is being run in associatio­n with McHale’s Stretford End Bar & Restaurant, Causeway and the prize giving ceremony will be held there on September 1 at approximat­ely 9.30pm.

Tee boxes and greens may be sponsored for €50 and all support is greatly appreciate­d. There are also cards being sold in conjunctio­n with the golf with numerous spot prizes on offer with the top prize being two nights B&B for two, one evening meal for two and spa treatment for two, kindly sponsored by the Rose Hotel, Tralee.

Brú Columbanus is a voluntary organisati­on that provides “Home from Home” accommodat­ion for relatives of seriously ill patients in any of the Cork Hospitals or Hospice especially relatives of sick children.

The home was establishe­d in 2005 and was the initiative of the Knights of Columbanus. Brú Columbanus depends entirely on donations and fundraisin­g initiative­s to cover the running costs of the house. Accommodat­ion is provide at no charge to in excess of 500 families who use the facility each year. The home is easily accessible from all Cork hospitals and Cork Hospice. The home is maintained by a team of volunteers who give their time and expertise freely and add to the calm caring environmen­t.

The Organising Committee consists of John White, Jimmy Bowler, Pat Lucid, Bernard Dineen, Debbie Dineen, Emma Bowler and John McHale and all informatio­n is available from them.
