Champions going back to their school roots
TWO sets of hurling champions set aside some special time for their alma mater this week as they brought their respective trophies back to Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí in Tralee.
With Lixnaw emerging triumphant in their senior county final clash with Kilmoyley and Abbeydorney also besting the combined forces of Ballyheigue/Causeway in the County Minor Hurling Championship Final, there was double cause for celebration in the Tralee school.
Lixnaw manager Fearghus Mac Muiris is a teacher in the school while past pupil Darragh Ó Seanacháin captained the side and Brian Mac Amhlaoibh, who just received his Leaving Certificate results, was a member of the team also.
Proud teachers and fellow pupils posed for photos with the trophies, no doubt hoping that this success would not be the last for the boys.
“Today we are acknowledging the fantastic win by Lixnaw in winning the Senior County Final and the also the Abbeydorney Minor team in winning the county title,” said the school’s Principal Ruairí Ó Cinnéide.
“We are particularly proud of the role members of the community of Gaelcholáiste Chiarraí had in achieving this,” he added.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Fearghus (bainisteoir), Briain and Darragh from the Lixnaw team, and Adam, Breandán, Tomás, Seán and Jedd from the Abbeydorney team on their success,”
“They set very high standards for themselves and it’s great to see this work rewarded,” he said.
