THE Scartaglin-based Local Link Kerry has announced the introduction of two evening time bus services in the Sliabh Luchara area.

These services will be introduced in Cordal and Currow and will operate on a pilot basis until December.

Services will be extended beyond December based on take up. These two services will operate on Friday nights and will service the following areas: Currow – Castleisland – Currow and Cordal Area – Cordal – Castleisland – Cordal.

These bus services have been developed to service the local areas whilst also providing a connection into Castleisland.

These are public transport services and can be availed of by anyone who wishes to use them.

The services will operate door to door where possible. Te cost of service is €5 return, and free travel pass is accepted.

Kerry Flyer CLG is the operator contracted to deliver this service on behalf of Local Link Kerry.

Local Link Kerry operates as an agent of the National Transport Authority, with a primary role to manage and co-ordinate the delivery of a combination of scheduled public and community transport services in Kerry.

Local Link Kerry also coordinates a range of services for agencies and organisations around the county.

It currently provides over 160 return services weekly across all of Kerry under the Rural Transport Programme. These services are being delivered by over 40 local operators, and in 2017 over 135,000 passenger trips took place.

Local Link offices play an important role as transport coordination units are tasked with embedding integration within its transport service planning, primarily by co-ordinating travel needs for access to employment, health, social and education opportunities.

“Rural transport plays a major role in combating rural isolation and is a model of partnership where key sectors actively engage in planning and developing transport services that ensure equality of access for all,” said Local Link Operations Manager Alan O’Connell.

“If you can identify the need for a public transport service in your area please contact us.”

Prior booking is essential. For details and full timetables, you’re advised to contact the Local Link office at (066) 714 7002 or email info@ locallinkkerry.ie.
