Mid Kerry to win again

COUNTY SFC ROUND 2A Mid Kerry v Legion

Saturday, September 8 JP O’Sullivan Park, Killorglin 5.30pm, Ref: Jermiah Lynch

NOT altogether expected but no real shock either that both these teams won their opening game, but the key now is to repeat the trick and sail into the third round.

Mid Kerry did what every district aspires to but few achieve - getting all the moving parts to cooperate in the first outing, which they managed with a 2-14 to 0-10 win over An Ghaeltacht.

Manager Sean O’Sullivan had Donnchadh Walsh, Darran O’Sullivan and Peter Crowley in key roles, but the ‘support cast’ is impressive with Ger Hartnett, Mike Breen and Liam Carey doing very well, with Fiachra Clifford and Gary Sayers coming off the bench to firm up the cavalry.

Legion went to Rathmore last week and claimed an impressive win against an always tough opponent in Rathbeg. It won’t have escaped Sean O’Sullivan that Legion’s full forward line of James O’Donoghue, Padraig Lucey and Conor Keane amassed 2-7 from play between them.

Jonathan Lyne is likely to mark Darran O’Sullivan, while the midfield struggle will be interesting and important to see which side can channel more ball into their lively and dangerous forwards.

The Killorglin venue could be worth a point or two to Mid Kerry and that might be all that separates these at the end.

Now they’ve that difficult first game behind them, Mid Kerry get a very hesitant nod to make it two wins from two. Verdict: Mid Kerry
