South to sqeak past Stacks

COUNTY SFC ROUND 2A South Kerry v Austin Stacks

Sunday, September 9

Con Keating Park, Cahersiveen 2.30pm, Ref: James O’Sullivan

ANOTHER big meeting here between a winning district side and a strong club with serious ambitions.

South Kerry took their time to get the better of Kenmare Shamrocks in their opening game, but their class and experience came to the fore with Graham O’Sullivan, Mark Griffin, Bryan Sheehan, Denis Daly and Niall O’Shea carrying the fight the best against their Iveragh peninsula neighbour.

Quite what to make of Austin Stacks is that bit trickier given their facile win over a Kenmare District team that clearly had very little work done as a unit. Nevertheless, the Tralee club went about their business in a very determined way and made sure of a big win in clinical fashion.

Conor Jordan, Ronan Shanahan, Greg Horan, Kieran Donaghy, Wayne Guthrie and Shane O’Callaghan are some of the obvious names that any opposition has to worry about but there’s plenty more to this Stacks team under the guidance of Wayne Guthrie who has just steered them through a strong county league campaign.

Stacks certainly have the forwards to hurt South Kerry but Cahersiveen is a bit of a fortress for them and another very tentative vote for the home side to squeak through.

Verdict: South Kerry
