St Kierans to win tight one

-

COUNTY SFC ROUND 2B

Feale Rangers v St Kierans Sunday, September 9 Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel 2.30pm, Ref: Tom Moriarty

THE second of only two District v District games and this could be closer than their respective first round result would suggest.

St Kierans went to Lewis Road and pushed Dr Crokes all the way in a fine performance that asked huge questions of the reigning champions before they edged through with a two-point win.

Always a strong District team, St Kierans really hit the ground running last week and they will look to do the same against a Feale Rangers that shipped a heavy loss to O’Rahillys but still have grounds for optimism heading back to Listowel on Sunday.

It was the concession of three goals that did for Rangers against O’Rahilly but if they can address that defensive problem there’s plenty of talent up front to trouble the Saints. Conor Cox remains a prominent scorer, while an appearance from Anthony Maher would be a further boost to Feale Rangers.

St Kierans will call on young players such as Michael Reidy, Cian Counihan and Eddie Horan along side more seasoned players like Seamus Scanlon, Aidan Breen and Eamon Kiely in what is a well balanced team and one that is clearly united and focussed on a deep run, which should continue.

Verdict: St Kierans
