Na Gaeil storm to IFC title

RANDLES BROS COUNTY IFC LADIES FINAL

Na Gaeil 5-10 ISG 0-2

NA Gaeil put last years disappointment of losing the Intermediate championship final firmly behind them, when they defeated an understrength ISG side at Legion GAA last Sunday.

The Tralee side were dominant all over the field from start to finish and ISG had no answer to their pace and finishing power. The ISG cause wasn’t helped by the absence of some key players, but while they would have made a difference, it is unlikely that Na Gaeil would have been beaten.

Na Gaeil held the aces all over the field, and their rapid fire forward line had ISG in all sorts of trouble throughout the game. Ayesha Roche was most impressive at centre half-forward, and along with flying wingers Megan Sheehy and Jadyn Lucey, the trio contributed 2-7 to the final scoreboard.

The O’Connell sisters Mary and Nora dominated the midfield exchanges, and with Megan O’Connor proving to be an ideal inside target, there really was nothing that ISG could do.

In fairness to the ISG side they never stopped trying and they can look back on the game as a learning curve. Laura O’Sullivan, Clodagh Quinlan, Julie O’Sullivan and Emma O’Sullivan in particular kept taking the fight to Na Gaeil even when things were going against their team as a unit.

Na Gaeil led by 3-4 to 0-1 at half time with the first goal coming from Megan O’Connor after Mary O’Connell showed great vision to put her through. Ayesha Roche added the second goal in the 28th minute, and shortly afterwards corner forward Clodagh McHugh added a third.

It was more one way traffic in the second half and despite some dogged resistance from the O’Sullivan’s and Quinlan for ISG, Na Gaeil added 2 more goals from Jadyn Lucey and Megan O’Connor to finish as impressive 23 point winners.

Na Gaeil will now go forward into the Munster campaign where they will face the Waterford champions with the date and venue to be decided.
