BEREAVEMENT:

Last weekend brought sad news again unfortunatly to the Community as we learned on Thursday evening last August 30th of the sad news of the passing of Elizabeth Kavanagh R.I.P. of Ahanagran West. Elsie as she was affectionately known was a very jolly, quiet and very much respected member of our community. Having spent many years in both America and England she returned home many years ago and resided alongside her family in Ahanagran. A woman that liked the outdoor life, she loved to be out and around and mingling with people. The esteem in which Elsie and her family are held was hugely reflected by the huge congregation that turned out at the repose of her body at Lynch’s Funeral Home, Main Street on Sunday evening last and at her Requiem Mass at St Michael of the Archangel Church and Interment afterwards in Relig Mhichil on Monday last. Elsie is predeceased by her parents Ned and Mary, her siblings Jack, Paddy, Mick, Eily, Mary, Catherine and Peggie. Elsie will be very sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, sisterinMaureen, extended family, relatives, neighbours and many dear friends to whom we extend our deepest sympathies. Sympathy is also extended to Michael O’ Carroll and family Lenamore on the death of his sister in law in Manchester England Ar dheis dea go raibh a hainmi dilis.

MOBILE/ INTERNET COVERAGE

For the last four years I have been constantly on about the scandalous coverage in this community of our Mobile and Internet coverage. It has never been as bad as what it has been in recent weeks; several times during the day we find that there is no service whatsoever. I firmly believe that this is mainly attributed to the eye sore wind turbines that are blocking signals in both mobile and internet services and if there not they are certainly not improving the situation in any way. At present the mobile coverage around parts of this locality is despicable, most people who depend on these phones all are of the same opinion, most calls won’t actually come through now as they go straight into voicemail. I have highlighted this and spend hours on the phone to Vodafone, who have recently acknowledged that there is a problem in the area, but by the same token nothing is being done about it. As most of us around this area rely on our internet by means of a signal from Cnoc on Oir which is blanked from our view by these famous wind turbines. Maybe our Politicians and Public Representatives might get this long running saga sorted out for the people of the community please. develop it to its fullest potential. From the moment Paul picked up a ball as a toddler, all of his training and dedication has led to his defining moment on Sunday in Croke Park. His brilliant achievement is a fitting reward too for Paul’s parents for the many hours spent waiting on sidelines on gloomy evenings while Paul was at training. It is a wonderfully proud moment for our Parish and Club. Paul, it’s only a matter of time before L’Oreal come knocking with a sponsorship deal! All your success is truly deserved.

INTERNATIONAL GOLF HONOUR

Another sporting high note for the Parish as Margaret McAuliffe has been awarded the great honour of wearing Ireland’s green blazer in another international golfing competition. This time Margaret is heading to Belgium to represent her country. All our best wishes go with Margaret for this most prestigious event.

MARATHON MAN

Congratulations to Sean Murphy of Knockawinna who came second overall in the Dingle Marathon this past weekend. Sean has featured in the top three positions in this competitive race over the past few years. He completed the distance in 2hr 49min 7sec - An impressive time over such a challenging route.

MEA CULPA

Please don’t forget to drop your GAA memorabilia into the Post Office, as soon as possible. Also, any photos from 1900-1945 of general parish interest eg. the village, the old school, class photos, etc. Anything of that nature would be great to have.

Apologies for omitting Mary Kiely’s name from last week’s Notes. She is one of the Fantastic Four who are putting untold hours into researching and writing this history book.
