Reflecting on our regatta day

AS the rowing season has now drawn to a close, Valentia Rowing Club and Regatta Committee is reflecting on what was, once again, a wonderfully successful regatta day.

The weather could have been kinder, but we were still treated to a wonderful day’s racing. The Seine boats gave us a fantastic race in testing, misty conditions in parts, and all the four-oar races provided us with great viewing, as they had done at all regattas this year.

Valentia crews secured four wins on the day, which added to the enjoyment for locals.

There was a great crowd in attendance, and the general opinion was that everyone enjoyed the day. To that end, the club would like to thank everyone who made the day possible. A big thank you goes out to all the clubs and their crews who competed on the day, and to all the spectators. Thanks also to Leo Houlihan on the Committee Boat, all the judges, and the men who manned the Safety Boat so efficiently.

Thanks as well to all who sold raffle tickets and helped with parking on the day, and in particular Eileen O’ Sullivan for all the trojan work she did before and on regatta day.

Another thank you goes to all the sponsors, without whom the committee could not run the regatta year after year. They have supported them for many years now. Finally, a word of thanks went out to the people of Valentia, both at home and away, for their continued support of the event. The August Bank Holiday Monday is synonymous with Valentia Regatta are and, with all your support, long may it continue.
