Either Clifford to help East

COUNTY SFC ROUND 2A East Kerry v Dingle

Sunday, September 9 Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney 2.00pm, Ref: Paul Hayes

THE third Round 2A game between a strong district team and a club, and another really hard game to call a winner in.

East Kerry got their championship off and running with a big win over a St Brendans team that would have been fancied to go well in this campaign, and while they were missing Jack Barry and Stefan Okunbor, East Kerry were without David Clifford, which is a frightening prospect for Dingle if the Fossa man has recovered from injury in time to play.

In his absence Clifford’s older brother Paudie did the damage with three goals and four points, but this is a very strong team all the way through from Brendan Kealy in goal.

Jack Sherwood, Evan Cronin and Kevin McCarthy add serious fire-power to their attack and Dingle and Kerry defender Tom O’Sullivan could be asked to detail any one of four East Kerry danger men.

Of course, the district team will be equally mindful of Dingle’s attacking prowess, not least in the shape of Paul Geaney who had two goals scored before leaving the action against Shannon Rangers after 40 minutes.

Dingle will have to the maximum performances out of leaders such as Mikey Geaney and Matthew Flaherty but of the younger Clifford plays for East Kerry it could be academic. Another game where ‘home’ advantage could tip the balance.

Verdict: South Kerry
