Get in step for the Old Kenmare Walk for MS

IT’S that time of year again when everyone involved in the MS South Kerry Branch is looking forward to hosting another Old Kenmare Road Sponsored Walk. This year’s event takes place on Sunday, October 7 and it promises to add another memorable footnote to what is always a great day out in stunning surrounds.

The launch of what this year will mark the 16th staging of the Old Kenmare Walk was held in Killarney last week. As always, The Gleneagle Hotel is a major part of the event and buses will leave the hotel’s carpark between 9am and 10am on the day of the walk.

Bookings must be made before October 5 to ensure transport is provided. So far in its history the walk has managed to raise over €350,000 for MS in south Kerry. And the hope is even more people will come out to support it in 2018.

John O’Shea has played a key part in organising the walk for many years; a walk he describes as an important fundraiser.

“It’s a vital fundraiser for MS South Kerry Branch. They don’t get any funding and it’s come to the stage where they have to take it into their own hands to raise money,” he said.

“There is already major demands on the service in Kerry. Any money they can get in is greatly accepted and appreciated. It’s for a very worthy cause.”
