‘ONLY ONE THING ON HIS MIND’

- By SINEAD KELLEHER

A POLISH national left the scene of an accident in Kenmare because he panicked, Kenmare District Court was told.

The court heard that Krzysztof Marczak was on his way to a lady’s house on the night in question and only had sex on his mind when the accident occurred.

Mr Marczak of Keol na Crinn, Lissyclerig, Kenmare crashed into another vehicle on Henry Street after his phone fell down and he bent to pick it up and moved the steering wheel. He panicked and left the scene and went to his girlfriends house in Scarteen Park.

The court heard that he admitted everything to garda when he was interviewed a few days after the accident and that he ‘ had only one thing on his mind’.

He pleaded guilty to two charges arising out of the incident including one charge of failing to remain at the scene and also driving without insurance at Henry Street, Kenmare on August 28, 2017. The court heard that he had crashed into one vehicle which had then hit another vehicle.

The court heard that he has two young children and that he is extremely contrite about what happened. He has been living in Ireland for the past eight years and that there is a difficult situation with the lady involved.

Mr O’Connell asked Judge Waters not to disqualify him from driving.

Judge Waters said that he would give him an opportunity as it was his first offence and he would not disqualify him. He said that he should not have left the scene of the accident.

“If I’m wrong he will get four years if I see him again.”

He convicted and fined him €250 for driving without insurance and a further €300 for failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
