Kerry ladies ready to take on Ireland... and then the world
WHAT’S in a pageant winner? Drive, hard-work, intelligence and beauty are all logical characteristics and it seems Kerry has that pageant pedigree.
Miss Ireland 2018 Grand Final takes place this Sunday and Miss Kerry 2018 Brógan O’Sullivan will not stand alone in representing the county as she will be joined by two other finalists with strong links to the Kingdom – Miss Kerry South Denise Hickey and Miss Dublin South Maria Murphy.
After coming second in the Miss Kerry final back in June, Denise Hickey, from Rathmore but now living in Kenmare, was the winner of the wild card final in August, giving her another opportunity to become this year’s Miss Ireland. The 24-year-old make-up artist said she has loved the experience so far.
“I’ve met some amazing people and made some great friends with the other girls. I can’t wait for Sunday, from what I’ve been told it sounds like it’s going to be a spectacular night,” Denise said.
“I have really enjoyed the experience and am using my title to raise money and awareness for the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus.”
Maria Murphy is from Millstreet, Cork but the 23-year-old attended Scoil Phobail Sliabh Luachra in Rathmore before attending UCC. She now works with Sigmar Recruitment in Dublin.
Miss Kerry, Brógan O’Sullivan’s preparations for the night are in full swing and she said the support she has received from the county has made it all the more worthwhile.
“I am feeling nervous and excited, but really looking forward to the night,” she said.
The 20-year-old from Killeen Wood, Tralee hopes to pursue a career in social care and is very passionate about female empowerment, and youth mental health.
“The past few months I have gained so much confidence. I recently got involved with Jigsaw Kerry’s Youth Advisory Panel and I am delighted to spend the year ahead with them promoting positive mental health in my community,” Brógan continued.
Miss Ireland 2018 Grand Final takes place this Sunday in The Helix Theatre, Dublin where one regional finalist will be crowned the winner to represent Ireland at Miss World in Sanya, China in December.
The winner will be chosen by a judging panel including former Miss World Rosanna Davison and blogger and businesswoman Suzanne Jackson.
